For students who maintain a 3.5 GPA after 21 credit hours in one of the Spanish concentrations, the Department of Languages and Culture Studies offers an Honors Program.
Students who choose to participate in the Spanish Honors Program must complete an additional 6 credit hours by having a 6-credit hour or longer study abroad experience or a professional internship experience of 6 credit hours ( SPAN 4410 ) or both a 3-credit hour study abroad and a 3-credit hour internship or service learning experience.
Honors students must also take LACS 4700 , where an Honors thesis is written that must be defended before the departmental Honors Committee.
In addition, students in the Honors Program must study another language at least through 2202 (the end of the Intermediate level). The honors notation will appear on a student’s official transcript.
