College of Computing and Informatics

The College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte aspires to be a national leader in advancing the role of computing and informatics as a catalyst for the 21st Century economy.  The mission of the College is: to be a preeminent enabler and provider of talent and intellectual capital to major industries in the region and state; to lead the drive to develop "T"-shaped talent to advance the crosscutting role of technology in the economy and across society; and, to lead impact-driven innovation in computing and informatics education and research.  As the only school of its kind in the Carolinas, students are prepared to shape the future of computing by participating in educational and research programs that respond directly to the needs of government and business.  At the core its research and educational programs is the development of "T"-shaped talent, which is the combination of strong technical knowledge with broad domain understanding and workforce skills.  The world has become a computing and informatics-based society.  All industries require some level of computing and informatics talent.  Many industries are fast becoming a computing and informatics industry.  As such, demand for computing and informatics talent and innovation will continue to grow.  The UNC Charlotte College of Computing and Informatics advances the field with its combination of the latest science, industry expertise, and dedicated faculty and students.  The College is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  Hard at work on a full spectrum of research topics, the College of Computing and Informatics has broken new ground in bioinformatics, computer science, computer security, data and visual analytics, data science, health informatics, human-centered computing, information technology, robotics, and visualization applications.
